Another (Life) Update

In Which I Confess Some Things

Hi there, y’all!

Back again . . . this time with more of a lifestyle-ish post ❤

(Got another one coming soon about the coloring book . . . have no fear 😉 )

I think I just wanted to rehash some things . . . things that the Lord has been revealing to me over the past several months.

I’m going to get a little personal here — it is very easy for me to lose focus on what matters in life the most.

Sure, life in general is exceedingly complicated, but I find that, for me, it’s easy to get caught up in things & life etc. and sort of leave more important things to the wayside.

God is smart, and He knows that we have a void within us that He designed for Himself to fill. And He also wants us to enjoy living! I mean, who doesn’t marvel at a glimmering sunrise or gawk at a night sky strewn with millions of stars?! It’s absolutely thrilling to get to hold a baby who’s only a few weeks old. Peanut butter is the best thing since sliced bread. And don’t get me started on getting lost in my grandparents’ cozy library!

But . . . somewhere along the way, things that are more like passions *can* begin to takeover a bit more than they should.

I really enjoy working out, but the refreshment I derive from that must be secondary to enjoying God.

I love writing and reading, but immersing myself in books all day would be isolating myself from being with others (aka my family) and be a potential blessing.

Relationships are a beautiful thing, but even people (and their opinions) can start to have higher status than the Lord (and His Words).

It’s just very easy to slide into tricking ourselves that our joy, contentment, worth, and stability come from things, individuals, status etc. instead of the fact that God has saved us, chosen us, loves us, and is sanctifying us for our benefit and His glory.

He loves us so much — and these things are meant to be enjoyed. There’s nothing wrong with relishing a good novel or getting enthusiastic over an accomplishment. Those are great (as long as they are God-glorifying, etc)!

But these things ought to drive us, in our hearts, to thanksgiving. Drive us to Him, the Giver. Drive us to Him, our Beloved.

The Bible says that ALL things were created through & for Jesus Christ.

“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.”

Colossians 1:16 ESV

That not only references *things* — that includes us, too! WE were created through Christ & for Christ.

That’s really a glorious calling . . . one I far too often take for granted 😦

I don’t enjoy listening to hard rock (sorry to all you rock fans! ❤ ), but I enjoy listening to some of the NewsBoys’ songs that they’ve put out in recent years — partly because the lyrics are so encouraging ❤

One of their songs, “Hero,” is just such a one. And one of my favorite phrases is actually part of the chorus:

I’m about One name, One life, One story

I’m alive to bring You glory

You took my blame and You paid the debt I owed

I’m gonna lay me down to lift You up

You’re the only King in the kingdom come

If I live, if I die, my life will show

You’re my Hero . . .

Newsboys “Hero”

The transforming power of those words . . .

What are we alive FOR?

If we get caught up in things, we ultimately get lost in those things.

I’d much rather get lost in Jesus Christ and in His Kingdom Work than anything else.

*Please note: I’m not writing all of this because I’ve “got it nailed down” — I am far from having anything down, frankly.

I’m just sharing what the Lord has convicted me of. It’s an ongoing battle.

But . . . as a believer in Jesus Christ, and as I shared in my previous post, we are not each a lost cause if we’re struggling. And it’s actually proof that God is doing something in us. Showing us where we’ve fallen off the trail . . . directing us towards getting back on track.

We are more than CONQUERORS through Him who loved us, Scripture says! If we’ve fallen, we can get back up because our hope is in HIM, not in our things or our own merit or strength.

I apologize for the length of this post 😛 ❤ But I don’t apologize for what I’ve written in it.

I hope and pray that you continue to seek the Lord — that you commit yourself and things that are making you anxious into His hands, because with God all things are possible — Jesus said those very words.

And I also hope and pray that you find your ultimate satisfaction in Him ❤

He is worthy ❤

Until next time . . . . . . ❤ ❤ ❤

  1. I definitely agree that we need to always put God first, and sometimes it can be hard since there are so many things in this world (one that He created, we must not forget) for us to enjoy. Really interesting to hear that you enjoy working out enough to need to remind yourself to make it secondary to God. I wish I was that enthusiastic about working out!
