Book Review: “Preacher on the Run” by Jayna Baas

Preacher on the Run

Hi y’all!

Today, we’re doing something a bit different.

I have been privileged to partake in a blog tour for “Preacher on the Run” by Jayna Baas!

I am just thrilled to get to do this. And I’m positive that you’ll be just as excited once we get to sink our teeth into the meat of this post.

Historical fiction is very near & dear to my heart (or really anything history-related), which, if you’re a regular on An Unfinished Story, you probably already know ❤

So, without further ado . . .

Isn’t the cover enticing?!

And get a glimpse of the intriguing back-cover description:

North Carolina, 1771

Robert Boothe has spent the last four years leading the tyrant-hating Regulators in standing against North Carolina’s corrupt British government. Just being an unlicensed dissenter preacher is enough to make Robert a target, but he refuses to back down from his conscience. Aside from a sympathetic court justice, the village of Ayen Ford has no other champion for its poor and defenseless.

Then Charles Drake, emissary of His Excellency William Tryon, comes to town with one ambition: winning the governor’s favor, no matter what it takes. And Robert Boothe just might be his last chance.

All Robert wants is a safe place for his little Baptist church to live and worship God. But the established church wants him to shut up. The governor’s men want him dead. And that safe place is farther and farther away.

You can run, but you can’t hide . . .

(Content notes: Not a romance; a near-wartime setting that includes violence/self-defense; fiction but “could have happened,” recommended age range is 13+)

For this review, I’m only reviewing the prologue and first chapter, as that is all that I have read up to this point! (*Note: this is to hook you and intrigue you to the point where you absolutely HAVE to get yourself a copy to figure out what happens next) ((Okay, now forget that I said that and continue reading)) ❤ ❤ ❤

As a Christian, I found this book relevant to our plight in this day and age in America. Not only are we finding ourselves being more blatantly harassed simply for following Christ, but our nation has been usurped nonchalantly over the years by radical leftists who have zero regard for God, Christianity, and the sanctity of human life.

Preacher on the Run is a book that, from the very beginning, seems to address this harrowing situation by taking us back to the very core of our nation. Our birth. An era in which our freedoms in America were first challenged.

I think Jayna did an excellent job at portraying the precarious predicaments our forefathers found themselves entangled in.

This first novel in Jayna Baas’ For Liberty and Conscience series starts off on a tense note, deepening in suspense as the harrowing crises of the hour unfolds before our eyes. It’s chock full of daring maneuvers, brave souls, tender family moments, and conviction.

One thing which really caught my attention was the authenticity of Jayna’s prose. I felt like I already knew Robert (the MC in Preacher on the Run) well, and she drew me into the story in such a way that I felt like I was the one about to do something dangerous — take God’s Word to hostile places.

Defy a government forbidding the spread of Truth.

To be, as our Lord Jesus put it, as “wise as serpents” but “innocent as doves.”

Sound familiar?

Jayna Baas has hit a raw spot in this nation with her newest novel. One that, quite frankly, needs to be addressed and healed.

I can honestly say that Preacher on the Run is one book you won’t regret reading.

(And I’ll be sharing a full-length book review when I’ve finished reading it ❤ )

  1. Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I put things off a whole lot and don’t seem to get anything done.
